Translate Science

Translate Science is an all-volunteer community of interest for multilingual open science. The community supports gatherings of its members to share opportunities and perspectives about the many ways in which a more multilingual and open scientific enterprise can be achieved. We strive to use open tools to create spaces where people can build relationships with others who want more interaction with science, not only in English, and who are working towards a just redistribution of power within the scientific community. Our hope is that the community we build can support the emergence of various projects that grow from our shared values and ways of working.

We organize ourselves at a bi-weekly core contributor meeting which is open to attend, but requires a commitment from members who want to direct its activities. We are currently focused on:

  1. Formalizing the processes required to govern the group collaboratively in the open and to set up clear paths for its longevity.
  2. Planning a monthly series of online community events so we can share ideas and cultivate relationships with each other.
  3. Seeking additional members of our core team to help plan and create the organization's future.

We keep in touch with a mailing list and a core contributor meeting that occurs every 2 weeks. We welcome newcomers who want to contribute to building a group with systems that ensure our organizational longevity. If you would like to join the group or simply know more do send an email to info@translatescience.org or ask us on federated social media.

Our code—including this landing page—is hosted on a Codeberg git repository. We maintain a self-hosted Wiki and blog. Additionally, a shared Zotero bibliography (see also this translation studies bibliography) allows us to manage our references. Contributions to and interactions facilitated by our resources are governed by our code of conduct. We welcome contributions to these resources, so please get into contact if you are interested.
